Avoiding FOMO tops: MPI with the order book

The readings that warn you a fast move is being fed by a late crowd and a thin book.

Why tops feel safe

A fast rising price, a trending narrative and everyone talking about one asset make buying feel safe. This playbook reads the crowd and the book when a move feels that way.

2

Step 1: read the crowd

Open MPI on the asset. Retail FOMO means the crowd is chasing. Distribution Risk means enthusiasm is high while stronger hands may be leaving. In Crowd & Retail Behavior, a jump in the Retail Activity and Attention Surge indexes confirms it.

Step 2: compare perception with price

The Perception vs Reality Gap plots sentiment against the return price actually delivered. An Overextended or Bubble-Like gap that keeps widening is the classic late-move warning. Top Trader vs Retail Intensity shows whether large trades or retail are driving the move.

Step 3: read the order book

Open Fake & Trap Detection. In a crowded move, look for bid walls that are pulled when price comes near, and ask liquidity that pulses in and out. Pulled liquidity on the bid side means the support you see may vanish.

Step 4: check the higher timeframe

In SCTA, Overextended Move or Fake Alignment on a sharp rally means the move is not backed by the bigger picture.

What to do

Read the crowd, the book and the higher timeframe together before you decide anything.

These readings describe conditions. They do not tell you to buy, sell or bet against the move.

Watch the narrative: a theme on Trending Narrative that turns to Warning can be late in its run.

FOMO is not a sell signalRetail FOMO does not mean price will fall immediately. It means the crowd is chasing, which is one condition among the others on this page.
